Tom Chimiak is not only a fellow Film Annex blogger but also an amazing film maker and a good friend. He has an eye for making something unique while still making it interesting. I have worked with Tom a few times and it is always a pleasure to work with him, and look forward to all the future projects I get to work on with him.
The Project I will be talking about today is the Live view project that i worked on earlier this year.
Still from the Live view shoot
Tom made a film for film makers, showing the process of how to set up a shot but through the camera instead of a boring tutorial. In his own words "A short film documenting the inner workings of setting up a shot, the decisions made on set complete and a live graphical camera display to portray the technical changes the operator is making."
On this project i worked as the sound recordist as Tom wanted the audio to tell the view what is being said on set so they get a real understanding of what goes on, on a film set and to accompany what the camera operator (and camera) actually sees.
This is such an interesting idea and a real pleasure to work. On the same day we worked on a test shoot for another one of Toms films called Colour Melody. I was second camera operator on this test shoot, getting a few shots for my own showreel (coming soon) as well.
I was unavailable when Tom filmed Colour Melody but I will put a link to the video as well here so you can see the final piece.
All in all I love working with Tom as he is an amazing director with original ideas that really do stand out, and I look forward to working with him again.
