YOU'D BE SURPRISED TO KNOW THESE GELATO FACTS!!!!

Posted on at

Hello everyone! I am Vanity and I am here to talk with you about another juicy, well not juicy actually but another 'sweet' and 'creamy' conversation. It's about Gelato!

Gelato. It's something gelatinous, right? Ah, maybe it's something like ice cream? Take note, I haven't heard much about Gelato so this will be my first time to explore this word.

Why did I write about Gelato? Of course, it is sweet! I love sweet! Sir micky-the-slanted-salerno announced that there would be a double reward topic blog about Gelato and the idea kind of got me. I find it quite interesting. I love desserts, although I need to control eating them because I easily gain weight.

For those who don't know anything about Gelato (Thank goodness, I did a little research just in the middle of doing this blog), it's the Italian version of ice cream but it's denser and contains milk rather than cream unlike American ice cream

But my research just stopped from there. Truth be told to my readers, I decided not to dig further into gelato research because this blog will be more opinionated rather than informative. I will be citing some interesting facts about gelato and then express my thoughts regarding these facts. That's it! And remember again, I do not know anything about gelato except the things that I wrote earlier and this will be my first time to know several things about it (You may call me a 'gelato first timer' then). I didn't research further because I want to give my unbiased comments about these little trivias. I do hope you'll have fun reading both the facts and comments. Have fun!

GELATO FACT #1: "The word Gelato comes from 'frozen' or 'to freeze' in Italian. "

~ Fact source : nzgelato.co.nz

My comment : I agree. It looks frozen. By just looking at it, I start to salivate. I think it looks better than ice cream.

GELATO FACT #2: "The story goes that sorbetto began when fruit was blended with snow. "

~ Fact source : nzgelato.co.nz

My comment : First, what is sorbetto? I think it still means ice cream. Ah, I think I got it. I think sorbetto could also mean ice cream (or maybe gelato) because sorbetto sounds the same with the Filipino word for ice cream (or gelato) which is 'sorbetes'. I think its original word came from there.

".....when fruit was blended with snow. " ~ Woh. Fruit was blended with snow? Is it possible? I see that it must be some sort of hearsay. But nice hearsay! I was surprised not because I don't believe it but because I think I was fascinated by it. What would probably happen if any fruit (Say for example: banana) was mixed with snow? Sounds refreshing and sounds gulping. But not dirty snow please. Just pure and clean snow. :D

GELATO FACT #3: " 'Gelato' is the past participle of the Italian verb 'gelare', which means 'to freeze', so you Italian language learners can go ahead and conjugate that one now. "

~ Fact source :  italylogue.com

My comment : Woh, that's something nice and new! And we've learned an Italian word for today which is 'gelare' (If you want to learn how to pronounce this word correctly, click this link!). We've also learned gelato as the Italian word itself. Just in case if you want to be apprised on how to pronounce the word gelato correctly, you may also refer to this link.

So remember: gelare and gelato. :)

Also, I remember Sir Francesco. Hello Sir. Hihi. :)

GELATO FACT #4: "The best gelato is made without preservatives, so it has a shorter shelf-life. In other words, the best gelaterie are making fresh gelato on a regular basis. "

~ Fact source : italylogue.com

*Handcrafted gelato

My comment : Did you know that the one I showed you above is barehandedly made with no preservatives at all? Wooh. Amazing. I guess it's one of the healthiest gelato of all! Too bad it has a shorter shelf-life though. Stores selling gelato (or gelaterie in short) must have been constantly supplying fresh gelato as soon as possible in this case.

Now that I think of it, I could eat plenty of dessert without having to think much about my diet and my weight with it. I'm always conscious about how my weight goes although I love eating, but man, it's so good to just enjoy and indulge yourself in this heavenly pleasure. Fresh and sweet gelato eating. Why are you so tantalizing to me? *Sigh*. There's no gelato here. Alright, I'm done.

GELATO FACT #5: "Gelato 'affogato' is a scoop of gelato (usually vanilla) with a shot of espresso poured over the top. "

*Or how about this one? :)

My comment : For me, the best among the three pictures is the third picture. Very attractive to the eyes.

I know espresso. It's a type of coffee but I didn't expect that it could also be paired up with gelato. Nice.

Just by looking at the three pictures, I feel like sighing (Yep, quite a lot of sighs for this blog. Please pardon me. I'm just amazed by what I've found out. Please forgive me.). This makes me want have endless gelato! By just looking at the third picture, I might be thinking that it's already in front of me. Wah. All I can do is sigh again. I want to eat gelato now, please. Give me. :/

GELATO FACT #6: "When ordering gelato, you order by the number of flavors (gusti) you want - not the number of scoops. More flavors in a small cup means smaller portions of each one, but basically the same amount of gelato. "

~ Fact source : italylogue.com

*What flavors are these?

My comment : REALLY? Does this apply to all stores? I mean, but why? Sounds a bit strange. Why base it on flavors alone? Maybe it's just a rule to make gelato a bit different from ice cream. I'm just fine with it but it's just that I find it quite strange, but not in a bad way. Just strange that is curious. Anyway, that's still good. We get to enjoy a variety of flavors in just one cup. Maybe if I'm given the chance to scoop some flavors for my cup, I'd definitely choose choco, purple yam, melon (maybe?), pandan, coffee, mocha, and the rest (So it means I'm choosing all? LOL.). Haha Yummy! :D

GELATO FACT #7: "Gelato is delicious, and you should try it too!" ~ Vanity

My comment : Now I know and I understand that I put a picture there with two kids eating ice cream instead of gelato. I know gelato is the topic here but when I found this picture, I could feel the kids' excitement as they hold each of their cones. You could see how playful and happy they've become while eating ice cream. This is also the same with gelato, or I think this could be MORE with gelato. Have you ever thought what if you were one of those kids and then you were eating gelato instead of ice cream? Just think of it. Gelato is much healthier, more substantial, and more unforgettable like you can't express the feeling after eating it because it's so heart-melting for you. Can you imagine what I'm imagining? We should eat gelato for the benefits of our health and for a different kind of experience. I encourage you to try gelato too. I know I haven't tried it yet but rest assured that if I see one, I'll most probably consider buying it, so let's buy and eat gelato now! :)
