‘Ziauddin College of Biomedical Engineering – addressing the changing healthcare’

Posted on at

Health is one of the primary needs of normal life. In Pakistan, the existing health system is not skilled enough to provide adequate health services for the growing population. Such a sorry state of affairs can be attributed to some key issues related to the health sector from the start. Deficiency of funds, limited access to health services and failure, extreme poverty, ignorance and lack of awareness among the masses and the poor health infrastructure have been identified as major problems in the way of improving the bless you. If we look at history we find critical engineering has promoted the advancement of human civilization and has contributed significant for the development of society function. World is changing slowly and the modern era is to have engineering applications in almost all fields. The many advances in research and modern development have marked impact on the values of society, especially those related to health care. The 21st century is technically called the Biological century as more technological advancement in the medical and industrial sectors is predictable with research programs funded largely underway in most countries. Development in the field of biology and medicine, such as sequencing of human genomes and research to create functions of cells and organs, have led to a serious change in many segments of industry and strengthening the engineering profession medical. Although conventional areas of engineering and other technological innovations continue, more opportunities will come up in Biomedical Engineering in the field of biology, medicine, health and healthcare delivery. Biomedical age is still in the embryonic stage, increasing steadily as we proceed to develop the field of biomedical.
'Ziauddin Faculty of Biomedical Engineering - addressing the health care that transforms "

If anyone has a passion to work for the sick and willing to make a difference in the health field. If someone enjoys working with the team of doctors, scientists, researchers, medical to improve, restore and develop the functions to simulate the human body and want to improve the health-related problems in the country technologist! So BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING're looking for them ... Although there are a small number of public and private universities in Pakistan to offer course in Biomedical Engineering, Biomedical but the length is gradually increasing. In Karachi University Ziauddin - a degree leading private concession University has recently established a School of Biomedical Engineering to provide education and training for biomedical engineers with the knowledge and skills necessary for a successful career as productive professionals, both in Pakistan at the international level. Faculty of Biomedical Engineering is offering four years Bachelor of Science (BS) and Master planning programs (MS) 2 years. Department of Biomedical Engineering is fully equipped with modern equipment and lead by dedicated faculty, under the direction of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Bhatti for improving the condition of Biomedical Engineering in the country and ultimately health status by production of qualified human resources in the field of sanitary engineering. It is expected that graduates of this college to become engineers and technologists with leadership potential. Students are taught and trained to be a qualified Engineers BM and the curriculum allows students to acquire the art and skills survey, scientifically health and related problems ultimately the health needs of the country. During the four years, students learning environment are exposed to a variety of learning strategies to provide experiential learning through a multidisciplinary approach to patient care. The comprehensive and integrated plan of studies not only includes courses in all engineering disciplines (according to the requirements of HEC / PEC) with practical training through intensive laboratory work and projects, but also encompasses biomedical problems of life real, in the following hospitals:

General 400 Bedded Hospital in N.Nazimabad, Karachi
150 Bedded General Hospital in Clifton, Karachi
General 150 Bedded Hospital in Kemari, Karachi
Dental Hospital a dental units 50

With the growing awareness of health, population growth and increased accessibility of optimal health care, the need for qualified professionals Biomedical Engineering Pakistan increases day by day, therefore; appropriate and applicable structure is needed to close the gap between medical technology and patient care. Currently, the state of Biomedical Engineering in Pakistan leaves much to be desired. Federal and provincial governments should make some policies to introduce biomedical engineering departments in public hospitals and health centers as well. Biomedical engineers can play a key role in providing optimal health care, both in the private and government sectors. The author is grateful to Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Bhatti (Dean of the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering, Ziauddin University, Karachi) to provide statistics.
