DESCRIPTION

Amra has a Doctors in Education from Columbia Teachers College, a Masters in International Affairs/Economic and Political Development from School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), Columbia University & is an Undergraduate from Brown University. Her Doctoral Research examined "the intricacies of corruption in Bosnia's education, and how such phenomena usurps the individual and societal aspirations of development."

Recent Publication: include Alexander, J.& Sabic-El-Rayess, A. (2005). "DDR Evolution: Learning from the Case of Bosnia and Herzegovina." In Ann M.Fitz-Gerald (Ed.), From Conflict to Community: A Combatant's Return to Citizenship. GFN-SSR, Cranfield University, United Kingdom. The publication was funded by the British government's Global Conflict Prevention Pool. Awards/Grants: Teachers College Scholarship (2005-2006); Columbia University's Visiting Scholar status, awarded by the Harriman Institute (2004-2005); Harriman Institute's Fellowship for Travel and Research in the Former Soviet Union and East Central Europe (2003-2004). The fellowship supported field research to evaluate the International Organization for Migration's "Transitional Assistance to Former Soldiers" program in Bosnia; Teaching Fellowship for Statistics and Quantitative Analysis (SIPA, Columbia University) (2003-2004); Columbia University Merit Scholarship, presented to the top 10% of the 2002-2003 entering class at SIPA (2002-2003).

Amra has also been Research Analyst at Goldman Sachs, and is originally from Bosnia & Herzegovina having completed her high school in Bihac during the war and siege. Other interests include post-war societies, Islam, ethnicity, social exclusion, and nation-building.
