In a barren landscape, a boy goes to fill a water container at a fountain. But there is a fierce looking militiaman standing guard there. After the boy has filled the container and is about to go away, he finds the man pointing his rifle at him. The soldier demands to know whose side the boy is on, but the latter holds his silence. The militiaman then orders him to salute, and by doing so, reveal which ethnic group he belongs to. If he's of his same group, he'll be allowed to keep the water, otherwise he'll be killed at once... Naturally the boy also wants to know which side the militiaman is fighting for and tries to figure it out, but the man holds back every possible clue. The boy needs to make something up fast, because in that situation all it takes is a thumb-up or a thumb-down to either live or die.

Dans une lande désolée, un enfant va remplir un bidon d’eau à une fontaine sans voir qu’un milicien fait le guet. Une fois son bidon rempli, l’enfant s’apprête à repartir, mais il se retrouve face au fusil braqué du milicien. Ce dernier lui demande dans quel camp il est. L’enfant ne répond pas, si bien que le milicien l’exhorte à faire un geste de salut, ce geste permettant de connaître l’ethnie d’appartenance. S’il est de son ethnie, il le laissera repartir avec l’eau, sinon il le tuera… Bien évidemment, l’enfant veut aussi savoir dans quel camp est le milicien, mais ce dernier ne laisse rien transparaître. L’enfant doit inventer quelque chose et sans attendre, parce que dans la situation où il est, il lui suffit de tendre ou de replier le pouce pour vivre ou mourir.
