More than almost any other scientist in the field of obesity and metabolism research, his work has informed potentials targets in drug discovery to burn fat and even turn fat into muscle. He was the first to suggest that inflammation is the key driver of insulin resistance and later identified PPARγ as the master regulator of adipogenesis. It is likely that his efforts will improve diabetes prevention and treatment for years to come.
