Takashi Miike is a prolific and controversial Japanese director. He has directed over seventy theatrical productions, films and TV programs from. During 2001 and 2002 Miike directed over fifteen productions.
Miike was born in a small town outside of Osaka. Although he claims not to have gone to school too often, he graduated from the Academy of Visual Arts in Yokohama, under the direction of renowned director Shohei Imamura, founder and dean of that institution.
He won the public attention with Shinjuku Triad Society, film that shows their extreme style and recurring themes in his productions. The success of this movie gave him the freedom to work on bigger budget films.
