In 2008 the world's population moved beyond 6.7 billion and a global food crisis brought agriculture back into the forefront of any plans for the future of humanity. This ongoing crisis was then overshadowed by the financial crisis, the likes of which had not been seen for 80 years. The ghost of Thomas Malthus, the controversial economist and demographer returns with his predictions of unavoidable mass starvation.
