Schisto in Lake Victoria
Uploaded on Tuesday 14 January 2014
DESCRIPTION
Theresa is a fish handler and serves as a community health volunteer in her village on the edge of Kenya's Lake Victoria coast. Both jobs bring her in daily contact with neighbors who have contracted Schistosomiasis (Schisto for short), a waterborne parasitic disease that infects more than 700 million people in the world. Schisto causes abdominal pain, diarrhea, intestinal issues, and can lead to malnutrition and even death.
Theresa has hope that with treatment for Schisto, her community would thrive with good health and more energy.
