Watch Me Bake: My First Meringue
DESCRIPTION
Hello everyone! Today I am going to show you how I made my very first meringue cookies! Meringue was one of my favorite sweets when I was little. I always buy them whenever we go to the market. The sweet, soft and airy texture when you bite and the gentle feeling of melting in your mouth it is what I love.
Now that I'm an adult, maybe I could try making my own meringue, right? So here it goes!
The ingredients I used to make meringue are: egg whites, cream of tartar, sugar, and vanilla extract. (Food color is optional)
The equipment you need are: mixer, mixing bowl, rubber spatula, piping bag and decorating tip, wax paper, sheet pan and oven. (My mixing bowl was the inner bowl of a rice cooker! Haha!)
First, pour the egg whites into the mixing bowl and beat it using the mixer until texture becomes frothy. Add the cream of tartar then pour the vanilla extract. Last, add the sugar gradually until mixture becomes thick and foamy. You'll know that it's good when you turn the mixture upside down and it doesn't spill.
Next, pour some of the meringue mixture into the piping bag and make a shape you desire on the sheet pan topped with a wax paper. Insert the sheet pan into the oven(preheat to 225 degrees Fahrenheit) and bake it for at least 45 minutes. Wait for about an hour for the meringue to cool down inside the oven.
Enjoy!
( My first meringue was not very good because it melts easily when exposed to air, so I placed them on plastic bags to maintain the crunchy texture. I'm not sure what caused it but I think it was the oven because it does not have the exact temperature required. However, it tasted really good!)
Thanks for watching!
