Jall Cowasji is a student at the University of Oklahoma, pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film/Video. He is a Davis United World College Scholar, and thereby receives a full scholarship to pursue his undergraduate education.
In 2011, he won the prestigious Green Industry Award at the Intelligent Use of Water Film Competition, sponsored by the Rain Bird Corporation in Beverley Hills, LA. His film Water Ways earned him a trip to LA and a cash prize of $6000. He was one of three finalists to win an award, selected out of an application pool of over 150 entries.
A year prior, Cowasji took the prize in an online film festival hosted by Bigstar.tv. His short narrative film, The Crick, was judged “best film” by a panel of industry professionals. He earned a $1000 cash prize.
In 2010, Cowasji worked as the prime filmmaker for WomenWeave, an NGO located in Maheshwar, India. He directed a short documentary that addresses the importance of the handloom trade as an artform, an occupation and a tradition. He collaborated directly with Sally Holkar, CEO, WomenWeave. The film was published on the organizations website.
Cowasji has also worked as the chief filmmaker for the University of Oklahoma Housing & Food Services. For them, he has produced two educational films that highlight student safety protocols. He was sought after for the job, because his prior work had been acclaimed in a public screening at the University. In addition, from 2009 to 2011, Cowasji worked as a photojournalist for the Oklahoma Daily.
After receiving his BFA, Cowasji aims to pursue a Masters in Cinematography, and subsequently wishes to make a career as a director of photography for both commercial and independent cinema.
