Filmquadrat was founded in 2002 by a trio of independent documentary film makers who aimed to create an organisation within which to be mutually supportive in the making of their films.

Working with this principle , Filmquadrat has developed into one of the leading German production houses for creative documentaries with production offices in Munich and Cologne and a network of international contacts .

The people behind the company are themselves respected filmmakers . With Rivers and Tides - Andy Goldsworthy Working with Time (2001) Thomas Riedelsheimer created a documentary, not only highly-acclaimed by the critics, but a US and European box-office hit which continues to impress audiences. Thomas Wartmann’s high-end television documentaries received several awards and top rankings with a broad audience. And Stefan Tolz’s multi-award-winning feature documentary On the Edge of Time became a ‘must-see for cinema lovers’ around the globe.
