Stephanie Silber and Victor Zimet have long managed to distill the extraordinary from the seemingly everyday. The Home Team philosophy can be summed up simply: from the heart…to the lens…to the screen.
HOME TEAM PRODUCTIONS entered its eighth year in 2007, and we’re off to a great start! Our latest indie effort, RANDOM LUNACY: videos from the road less traveled, was awarded Best Documentary at the Westchester International Film Festival. On the heels of that success, it went on to its New York City premiere at the New York Underground Film Festival, playing to a sold-out house and an enthusiastic crowd. Currently, the film, like its subject, Poppa Neutrino, continues to travel the country and the world, screening on the festival circuit and at arts cinemas. It is developing a reputation as an underground classic.
Closing out 2007, we are presenting our latest concert film, featuring the “House Band of New York City,” Black 47, as they ring in the New Year in typically riotous fashion at Connolly’s in NYC. As is the Home Team style, it’s far more than solely a concert film – we give the viewer an inside look at band lore, the genesis of songs old and new, the band’s beginnings in the wilds of The Bronx, and much, much more!
HOME TEAM prides itself on a broad-based expertise – our combined forty years of experience runs the gamut, from independent filmmaking, to television specials and documentaries, to educational videos for non-profits such as Rob Reiner’s I AM YOUR CHILD FOUNDATION and Asia Society, both the latter in collaboration with New Screen Concepts.
For us, it’s the stories about people that drive our passion. For BRAVO Profiles, we produced and directed an hour on the inimitable Cyndi Lauper. Our Robert Duvall profile for BRAVO, which was the recipient of both an Aurora and a Telly Award, aired in 2002, and took a close up look at the actor/director’s creative process as he produced and directed his feature, ASSASSINATION TANGO. The film was screened at the Tarrytown Film Festival, followed by a Q&A with critics Peter Travers and Judith Crist.
SONGS & STORIES, our bittersweet documentary about the late Irish blues guitar great, Rory Gallagher, is wrapped around a tribute concert that took place at New York’s legendary Bottom Line. The film premiered on Ireland’s TG-4 in 2004. In 2005 it marked its U.S. premiere at NYU’s Cantor Film Center, as part of the Glucksman Ireland House prestigious Events Series. A year later it was featured at the Westchester International Film Festival and at the Wild River Festival.
The long form story of Black 47, FANATIC HEART, remains a work in progress – that film will be an incisive and thoughtful portrait of the erudite playwright, novelist, and memoirist Larry Kirwan, and the band he founded almost two decades ago. Did we mention that this one will be political? And poetic? Look for special guest stars…
Another HOME TEAM work-in- progress is a documentary about the Croatian composer/rock musician Nenad Bach, a star in his own country who is working to find his niche in America. Bach has performed with superstars the world over, notably with Bono and Pavarotti. Now, he is poised to introduce a new kind of world music – the enchanting sounds of the klapa, an ancient form indigenous to his home country, combined with Nenad’s own rock sound.

Stephanie Silber has worked in entertainment and the media for over twenty years. Her theatrical experience includes work both on the boards and behind the scenes, and includes associations with Playwrights Horizons and The Ensemble Studio Theatre. After a stint as a print journalist, writing primarily about entertainment, Silber began producing, writing, and directing long-form documentaries which have aired on outlets such as Court Television, The History Channel and The Learning Channel. Her short film, ENVIRONMENTALISTS UNDER FIRE, for the Sierra Club and Amnesty International, was recognized in 2000 with a Telly Award, and was represented at the Amnesty International Film Festival in Vancouver, 2002.
Victor Zimet is a veteran of the film and television business with over thirty years experience to his credit. He was awarded an Emmy for producing and directing a magazine segment on the victorious 1986 Mets for WNYC-TV. Prior to launching Home Team, he edited many network specials, and developed a stellar reputation at CBS, editing on various series including STREET STORIES with the late Ed Bradley, EYE TO EYE with Connie Chung, and PUBLIC EYE with Bryant Gumbel, during which he received another Emmy nomination. In 1999 he co-produced a story for National Geographic about his friends, The Flying Neutrinos, whom he had discovered busking on a Times Square subway platform in 1986. That family of street musicians, who had so long ago inspired RANDOM LUNACY, had just taken on the Atlantic Ocean in a raft made of scraps. The rest is history.
