She holds an MFA in Film, Television, and Digital Media from University of California, Los Angeles (received in 2010) and a BFA in Animation from Concordia University (received in 1998). She has worked for over fifteen years in the Montreal animation industry, and has spent most of her time at the National Film Board of Canada, where she first worked as an animator and then directed two films of her own (An Aqueous Solution, completed in 2003, and multi-award winning film The Girl Who Hated Books, completed in 2006).
Jo’s latest film, Without Wings (completed in 2010), is a study of the human body in flight. It has been touring the festival circuit and has won several prizes including Best Super Short Animated Film at the All Sports Los Angeles Film Festival, a Gold Award at the JamFest Indie Film Festival, and an Honorable Mention at the Columbus International Film & Video Festival. Her previous film, PK-Granny (completed in 2007), was screened internationally at over fifty festivals and won several awards, including Best Animation at the Beverly Hills Short Film Festival in 2008 and Best Animated Film at the Worldwide Movement Film Festival in 2009.
On the rare occasions when Jo is not animating, she can be found training in the discipline of Parkour, taking long walks along the beach, or watching the sunset from the top of the Ferris wheel at Santa Monica Pier.
